Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD is a direct transfer from a US donor's IRA account to a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Its main benefit is that it is not counted as taxable income, provided it meets these requirements:
- The account holder must be at least 70½.
- It must leave the IRA by 31 December and transfer directly from the account to the receiving charity.
- The limit is $100,000 per person per year.
- Eligible accounts: traditional IRAs, inherited IRAs, and inactive SEP or Simple IRAs.
Gifts of shares
Through a donor advised fund (DAF): you can give appreciated assets such as shares and take an immediate deduction equal to the asset's fair market value, up to 30% of your adjusted gross income. Over time you can then recommend grants from the fund to 501(c)(3) organisations.
United Church of Bogotá is a 501(c)(3) organisation and can be found under the following tax identification number:
- TIN
- 81-5353529
For a direct transfer from your brokerage account to UCBIM, please contact ucbim@ucbogota.org for transfer instructions.
Please note: the donor must itemise in order to use the deduction.
